“We have had a great week. For getting off the grid this is by far the best place we have stayed. Tom and Becky left a wonderful note and my son was so happy they remembered he liked Pokémon and knew when they found one it was his. They are so prompt to answer any questions and kept us stocked well with fire wood. It was clear a few nights and we got to see the Milky Way. We caught plenty of fish for a fish fry a couple times. Deep fried the fish, it was great! Didn’t get to see the train, but the trestle was awesome. Tom and Becky were great hosts & took care of our every need. Camp fires at night, fishing every day. Glad we chose to come here. Great memories, hope to be back. We also ate at The Curious Pig, which was very good BBQ and the service was great. Ate at Chung’s at the golf course, Logan’s and probably our favorite, The Curious Pig. It’s always quiet and peaceful here and a perfect location to look up at night and see the stars! We stayed 2 years ago in the other Cabin and were so excited to come back. The views are amazing here and so peaceful. We had fun fishing every day and swimming. Nights consisted of warm campfires and great family talk and fun. We had a few fish fries, nothing beats fresh fish. The Lodge was well stocked and great size for the family. Tom & Becky were so friendly and great about going over everything upon arrival also. Cabin was well-furnished, five (!!) different boats provided, firewood provided, quiet lake with, from what I could tell, 5 total cabins on it. Almost zero mosquitoes, but a good amount of flies by the shore. Hosts escorted us to the property at check-in, which I was not used to, but because it’s so far off the road that’s really the best way to do it.” Date of arrival - June 26, 2021 The Gillen Family “My husband Ben, and kids Arden (12) and Alice (9) were hoping to find a quiet, peaceful lake cabin to spend a few days and we are so happy to have found The Lodge! We stayed a week and by the way had PERFECT weather! We loved swimming, and “frogging” and fishing. We canoed around and explored the shores. We picked wild blueberries and strawberries and made pancakes! Every morning we were excited to walk down the road to see all the animal tracks. We heard the whippoorwills every night and the loons on 2 nights. We saw the bald eagle one night as we were out fishing. Oh and there is a nice resident garter snake we met down by the dock! We also got into town several days to eat at Fob’s diner (absolutely wonderful!!) and we stopped by Ben Franklin 5 and 10 and also the library. We all had a lovely, relaxing week here. I will miss the breezes at night from the lake and the quiet. Thank you David and Nancy for a very special visit. We look forward to coming back.” Ben, Amy, Arden and Alice “This was our first stay at the Lodge and we thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The scenery is gorgeous and peaceful. The lake was perfect for our boys to swim, play and fish. We heard wolves and bear every night although we never got to actually see them. We did have fun searching for the tracks each morning. We saw an eagle and watched a turtle dig a hold and lay her eggs also. David and Nancy are wonderful hosts with just the right amount of involvement. They were very helpful and yet gave us ample privacy. We will be recommending the Loge to our friends (some are already wanting to stay here based on the pictures we shared!). Very quiet and relaxing and the cabin has all the comforts of home. The owners were tremendously helpful and went out of their way to answer all of our questions before and during our stay! Our family of five caught plenty of fish, saw wild life, swam in the lake and relaxed. The location is perfect for day trips to other areas of the U.P. As well. This cabin is located on a private lake with incredible sunrises and sunsets. We've stayed here three times now and each time is an improvement upon the previous one. Our last trip we were pleased to discover that "the Lodge" is outfitted with a self-sustaining solar power system that runs the cabin with full electricity both day and night. What an incredible enhancement for this secluded retreat. Every minute in this area can yield new sights and adventures. Whether it's catching a trophy walleye it listening to the wolves howl in the evening, this place will offer the most relaxing experience of a lifetime. We will definitely be back! We were able to hear the whippoorwills at night and even heard the wolves howling! The place was sparkling clean and being a fully stocked house makes it easy to prepare meals and have a place big enough for the whole family to enjoy. There are also so many scenic trips to take and everything in the area is full of breathtaking sights. The lake is also very nice and the fish are plentiful! We will definitely be trying to come back as soon as possible! If you are looking for privacy and seclusion to get away and relax for a while, this is definitely the spot to do it! We were all very comfortable in the cabin -- there was plenty of room for all of us to stretch out. The owners were very accommodating and helpful for anything we might need. We fished every day both in the boat that is available and from the dock. The kids had a great time throwing their lines in down on the dock and caught quite a few different kinds of fish. There was even a bald eagle that flew from tree to tree right over top of us! It sure is an awesome sight to see that majestic bird!!! We also heard whippoorwills talking to each other right outside of the cabin. We took advantage of both the grill that is furnished and the cooking grate that hangs over the fire pit and had some delicious meals! It is a very short drive into Crystal Falls, which is the nearest town. We did some shopping at Ben Franklin and ate at Fob's Fine Food a couple of times (which is a must- do when you are there!) and also got lunch & ice cream at Sommers Sausage Shop & Grocery (don't let their name fool you -- they have a menu with quite a variety of sandwiches, fries, etc. and of course the desserts!). It is simply incredible! The cabin is neat, clean, and in such a beautiful setting. The fish were plentiful, and we were immersed in nature. Everything was in working order in the cabin. The sleeping quarters were cozy and homey. The kitchen area and living room were very nicely furnished. The owners were very pleasant, communicate well, and were always a text away if we needed anything. You can tell that they put a lot of time into making this place what it is. When we arrived, they showed us how everything operated in the cabin, asked us if we needed anything further, and left us alone with nature. The place is extremely private and relaxing. This lodge has everything including privacy.  5 of 5 Stars My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this property and plan to return as soon as possible. We hiked, hunted, fished and loved the privacy. The lodge is sparking clean and everything is provided. We enjoyed eating fresh fish and partridge. We saw deer, bear, eagles and heard the coyotes/wolves. The owners respected our privacy and even allowed us to archery hunt deer in an enclosed baited blind. “We truly love having the opportunity to stay at the Cabin (& Lodge). Our growing family has enjoyed coming here for a number of years now and don’t tire of the beauty & peacefulness of the place. We bring kayaks & so enjoy paddling around the lake. The loons greeted us every day & the beaver kept an eye on what we were doing! The fishing was superb & we enjoyed a bass dinner one night! It got hot a couple of days so we enjoyed floating in the lake. We always look forward to this trip. Tom & Becky are great people & thanks so much for being great hosts. The place is immaculate and well provisioned and the owners are gracious and most helpful. We so enjoyed it (my wife Corinne, me, brother Tom and his wife Kathy). Extremely convenient to Crystal Falls and the Channing area where we grew up. We took a field trip to Houghton early one morning for a surprise breakfast of pannukakku (Finnish baked custard pancakes with warm raspberry sauce) at the Suomi Restaurant in honor of Kathy's Finnish heritage. Beautiful drive. This is the area where Travis and Angel hung out and did some of their detective work in the crime fiction novels Blood Ice and Lizard Eyes by Chick LaPointe (available on Amazon). This was a wonderful respite on a gorgeous lake. We laughed, enjoyed nature, got reacquainted with our native cuisine and saw much wildlife including deer, loons, turkeys, a hippopotamus (not really) and a grumpy old porcupine waddling on the road. We would return in a heartbeat to this off-the-grid rest from the news and the tired old world. Our batteries are charged and our minds are basking in serenity. Thank you, Nancy and David for creating this peaceful oasis. We had the lake to ourselves all week saw 2 boats but they were only there for an hour. The fishing was very good. we saw plenty of wildlife grouse,Deer,bear,bald eagle Loons couldn't get enough of sunsets and sun rises very peaceful the only sound you hear is the surrounding wildlife. Extremely private and quiet location perfect for complete relaxation. Had all the amenities needed to be comfortable. Plenty of options for hiking and we had the entire lake available for fishing without any other people on the lake. Our hosts were the most accommodating and friendly that we have ever met. They were genuinely interested in make my sure our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. We have 10 year-old twins, and wanted a place away from it all but not too far away, with a variety of recreational activities. This was the perfect place for us. The cabin is beautiful, and has been completely redone. All new woodwork and fixtures through the cabin make this a clean and comfortable place to stay. There is a generator only for use as needed, and we loved the simple nature of the propane lamps in every room. It made it even more cozy as we played games and read our books each night. The lake is so clean and pristine. We went out in either the row boat or canoe every day. The fishing is amazing, and so is the swimming. The kids played around in the sand bottom beach area for a few hours each day. There are only a couple of other cabins on the 140 acre lake, and the others are infrequently used as far as we can tell. We saw only a couple other people early in the week and other than that we had the entire lake to ourselves. Though this cabin is quite remote with abundant wildlife, it is only a 10 minute drive from Crystal Falls, which has a grocery store, bait shop, and a couple restaurants. This cabin is also not far from Iron River and Iron Mountain, and is perfectly placed for a day trip to the Porcupine Mountains or Pictured Rocks. Lastly, the owners of this beautiful place are great people. They were so friendly and helpful, and made sure we had absolutely everything we needed during our stay. We put in a lot of time and energy to find the perfect place for our first "pre-retirement" experiment. The reviews are what sold us and we were not disappointed. This place had everything we were looking for. Peace and quiet, privacy and the opportunity to experience the UP atmosphere and hospitality. This place was just beautiful, very clean and the cabin was just the perfect size for the two of us. The generator worked flawlessly, when we needed it. So off the grid yes, roughing it, no way! We too were visited by the loons, whippoorwills and other beautiful songbirds. Other wildlife that showed themselves included a wolf swimming across the water and a doe that walked right into the yard off the lake. A couple mornings with light fog on the water, beautiful sunrises and amazing colorful postcard sunsets and breathtaking scenery both day and night. We were lucky to be present when the train sounded its whistle and crossed the trestle. The fishing was awesome. We caught bluegill, pike, perch and bass. Most every cast brought up a great catch. There's nothing like a fresh fish fry to celebrate success on the water! The town is close with very friendly people. Crystal Falls being centrally located was the halfway mark for us to take day trips to The Porcupine Mountains, Lake in the Clouds, Iron River, Copper Harbor and the other many scenic drives. We definitely would love to come back to complete a Fall tour. Our Hosts made sure our stay was everything we were looking for and it was and more. Definitely a diamond in the not so rough!
